Rockin' Liz

You know her. You love her. Yep, that's our Liz, the one with the AWESOME hair. She's so fun and good at her job. We asked her a few questions and her answers are as great as her hair.

Rockin' Liz

Q.  Where did you grow up?

A.  Mostly in Detroit, but I spent some time in Asheville as a kid.

Q.  What's your favorite thing about living in Asheville?

A.  Definitely the culture. I love the way all the freaks and geeks and everybody all get along. And I love the performing arts here.

Q.  Are you a performing artist?

A.  Yep. I've performed in 2 circus groups, Mosaic Vortex and Surreal Sirkus. I've spun a fire staff - love fire spinning.

Q.  What!? With that kind of background, tell us what you like about working at Rocky's.

A.  I love bouncing around, staying busy. I always have customers coming in. Our regulars are really amazing.

Q.  What else can you tell us about yourself?

A.  I love to travel!

Q.  Where was the last place you traveled?

A. I went to Charleston to see the solar eclipse on the beach.

Q. Where are you going next?

A.  New Orleans for Halloween.

Q.  Will you PLEASE bring back photos?

Asheville Road Trip

We love a good road trip, especially when it involves beautiful weather, good friends, and a convertible.

Unfortunately, though, some of our friends to the south had to take an unexpected road trip this month because of the BAD weather.

We watched closely as Hurricane Irma took its toll and our hearts go out to everyone who suffered. We were happy to have refugees land in Asheville and want to thank one patron in particular who wrote this humorous review:

Came up to escape hurricane Irma and found this place. Had sweetmild chicken, collards, mac and cheese, mashed potatoes and a waffle between my husband and I. This was a welcomed treat. On my short list for best chicken and waffles. You guys nailed the sides! No one ever nails sides. Honestly, if it even rains in Fl again I'm using that as an excuse to come back and get a plate.

We're thinking about hitting the road for a tour of the Carolina chicken joints. Check out this new awesome map! You can pick one up at either of our restaurants for only $9.99 and start planning your "Great Carolina" road trip.

Thank you to everyone who includes Rocky's as part of your road trip. We're happy to see you - rain or shine.

Summer 2017 on the Patio

It all started June 1st when Rocky and Jeff opened #WingsAndStrings on the south patio with a tribute to Gregg Allman. We knew this was going to be a great summer for music and for friends and families (and even for a few dogs).

We wanted to amplify the music this summer by posting live feeds on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. In case you missed it, check out our new YouTube playlist for Wings and Strings

#WingsAndStrings has been a special addition to the South location patio for owners Lauren and Rich Cundiff. They share a love music with their early partner at the Patton Avenue location - Mr. Rocky Lindsley himself. Rich and Lauren's son Aidan is an accomplished guitarist and the Cundiffs have spent a lot of years involved in Aidan's musical education. In fact, they are downright passionate about musical education.

We started talking about how to foster young talent and bring more live music to Rocky's and that's how Bluegrass Brunch on Sundays got started. If you've missed the performances this summer, you can still catch a Sunday Bluegrass Brunch this Sunday (9/3) from 1:30 - 3:30 with Jonah Riddle and Carolina Express.

Here's a sample of Jonah Riddle (18) on banjo and guitar, Grayson Riddle (13) on guitar, their dad Benjie Riddle on upright bass, and Rhiannon Ramsey (13) of Rhiannon and the Relics on fiddle.

We wanted to give these young musicians a venue to perform and we've been incredibly grateful that they've shared their talent with us and our customers.  Please check out other young performers from the summer:

Bailee Brandon with her grandfather Jerry Sutton

Lillian and Sara Nell Chase

Rhiannon and the Relics

Grab any opportunity you get to see these kids play! We have a YouTube playlist for them as well - Bluegrass on the Patio.
